Nights At The Roundtable – The Yellow Balloon – 1967 (RIP: Don Grady)

Despite the notoriety associated with My Three Sons, Don Grady preferred being known as a musician. Fair deal.

Not a good week for people associated with a space and time to be leaving. First we had Nora Ephron and now comes the sad news (last night) of the passing of Don Grady from Cancer at the age of 68.

Probably destined to always be known as “Robbie” in the long-running TV series My Three Sons, which ran from 1960-1971, Don Grady was also a talented musician, whose association with the band The Yellow Balloon garnered a sizable hit in 1967 with Yellow Balloon.

Pure Sunshine Pop at its most effervescent, Yellow Balloon was a catchy, excellently produced track that fairly overflowed with optimism while carrying a certain homage to The Beach Boys.

The Yellow Balloon however, wasn’t around for long and Don Grady continued his acting while also pursuing a solo musical career.

A multi-talented musician and performer, Grady touched the lives of a lot of people – those growing up to My Three Sons on TV and those recalling a period of innocence and an instant classic song to go with it.

And in case you missed it the first time around here is Yellow Balloon by The Yellow Balloon, from 1967.
