With Wartime travel restrictions and the severe rationing of gas, Labor Day in 1942 was pretty dismal for that last official vacation of the Summer. But New York Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia endeavored to put a positive spin on things by going on the air to announce that New York was in fact, the fun place to be. And who needed to leave town anyway?
