You can’t do a week of posts featuring the essence of Funk without adding The Meters into the mix. They were almost singlehandedly responsible for cultivating and exporting New Orleans Funk to the rest of the musical world.

Tonight it’s a slight cheat, but a special nod to a great band. The Meters, live at The Kingfish Lounge in Baton Rogue, Louisiana from October 1, 1976. It’s the second half of the 90 minute set. And even though the sound may be bit rough in places, it’s an electric set and glowing proof you can’t play Funk without playing The Meters.
