– Roxy Music – In Concert At Oakland Auditorium – April 20, 1979 – KSAN-FM Live Broadcast –

Roxy Music to start the week. One of those pivotal bands which defined much of the 70s and 80s. A band you couldn’t exactly pin down as to what genre they belonged to (which was great). They had huge appeal for the followers of Glam, they were cutting-edge experimental, they had elements of Progressive, they could be construed as Pop, they have been considered leading edge of the New Romantic movemet – they were pretty hard to pin down. And for that reason Roxy Music have had universal appeal and have been an influential band for a lot of musicians over the years, even grabbing the distinction of being one of the 100 greatest bands of all time.

A Roxy Music concert was much the same as the release of a new Roxy Music album in the 70s – it was an event and everything stopped to soak up what new direction or new shading they were taking. They never disappointed.

This morning it’s a stunning sounding concert via KSAN-FM in San Francisco of  concert originally broadcast from The Oakland Auditorium on April 20, 1979. 81 minutes of vintage and timeless Roxy Music and an excellent example of a band managing to sound fresh, some 45 years after the fact.

Enjoy – and brace yourself for the new week.

Almost March and we’re still here trudging along, looking for support. We don’t run ads, which you have all told me you hate, so we need contributors to keep us up and running – all day/every day. Costs even more now than it did this time last year. But we’re still offering you the best of what’s in the archive – yes, this is all from our Collection (except the sessions and concerts – gotta give credit where credit is due – BBC 6 Music and Radio X in London and RNE In Madrid are essential sources of finding new music) but everything is the result of yours truly digging into boxes, climbing over shelves, falling into dumpsters. It’s all slices of history, it’s important and it’s yours if you want it. All you have to do is please-please-please subscribe via Patreon (that little box at the bottom of this post) – click on it and you’ll be taken to their site where you can subscribe to Past Daily, let them know how much you want to donate – or check us out for free, test drive the site, as it were, and decide to become part of the Past Daily experience. Simple, painless and we’ll love you for it. Do it if you can and you’ll be able to download your own copy of all our posts and new ones as they appear. Kind of cool, don’t you think? But you have to become a Patron in order to do it. Think about it – no pressure – honest – really . . no pressure. But there’s this landlord . . . .
