Over to Salzburg this week for a concert by Steven Isserlis and Friends, who consist of Joshua Bell and Arisa Fujita, violins, Lawrence Power, viola, Steven Isserlis, cello, Denes Varjon and Izabella Simon, pianos. The concert was recorded on August 7th by the venerable WDR in Germany and relayed to Radio Nacional España Clasica (the reason why there are German and Spanish announcements going on simultaneously). The concert is divided between two players.

Here’s what’s on:

Part 1 (top Player)
1. CLAUDE DEBUSSY • Sonata for Violin and Piano in G minor
2. GABRIEL FAURÉ • Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 1 in D minor, Op. 109
3. IGOR STRAVINSKY • Easy Pieces for Piano Four Hands
4. ZOLTÁN KODÁLY • Duo for Violin and Cello, Op. 7

Part 2 (bottom player)
EDWARD WILLIAM ELGAR • Piano Quintet in A minor, Op. 84

A lovely concert with some great ensemble playing by a little band who alternately go as Joshua Bell and Friends from time to time.

Play in a quiet room.

And while you’re contemplating the universe, please contemplate we’re ending our Fundraiser in the few days, we’re way below our goal ($15,000 – not $85,000 as it erroneously says), and we DESPERATELY NEED YOUR SUPPORT. Honestly, we do this every day, all day long – if we’re not posting we’re restoring, preserving and digitizing the thousands and thousands of hours of historic audio and music and interviews you hear on this site. That’s why we hooked up with INDIEGOGO and are doing this fundraiser in order to keep us up and running and keep the archive operating. WE NEED YOUR TAX DEDUCTIBLE CONTRIBUTION IN ORDER TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN, AND WE’RE DESPERATE. WE NEED YOUR HELP AND WE NEED IT IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS. Please click on the headline right below the photo of our Piano Playing Mascot and GIVE YOUR SUPPORT TO HELP KEEP HISTORY ALIVE!
