Nicole Sabounè and Sudakistan – Live at Sveriges Radio – Dec. 12, 2015 – Sveriges Radio P3

Nicole Sabounè with Sudakistan, in session at Sveriges Radio P3 Radio Hall in Stockholm, recorded earlier this month, on December 12.

New music out of Sweden tonight. I’ve run a session by Nicole Sabounè about a year ago. Her latest album Miman came out in November of this year to very good reviews. She’s another reason Sweden is a country to watch closely for new music – there is currently a bumper crop of great talent coming out of there, and it’s refreshing to hear the wide range of artists currently making the rounds.

Joining her tonight are the Swedish Psych/Alternative/Indie sensations Sudakistan, who are currently touring to promote their debut album, Caballo Negro which also came out in November. Sudakistan have only been around for two years, but have gone a long way in a short period of time.

Both artists together really make this a special occasion, and they are the perfect fit. With Nicole Sabounès strong and vibrant vocals, mixing seamlessly with the piercing and hynpotic wall of sound provided by Sudakistan, this is a 45 set that begs repeated listening.

Hopefully this is not a one-off, as these two groups of artists joining forces make for an irresistible listening experience. Looking at both of their Facebook pages, I don’t see any upcoming tour dates – and the ones they have done so far are sticking around Sweden. Hopefully that will change over the coming months. I certainly see them doing well hitting the U.S. as either a support band or hitting small clubs and venues – and certainly appearing at the main festivals.

But whatever happens, Nicole Sabounè an Sudakistan are artists you should keep an eye out for. Whatever their plans are for 2016, have a listen to this Sveriges Radio session, recorded at the fabled Radio Hall in Stockholm in the meantime, and see if you like what they’re all about.
