Sky Larkin – 6 Music Session – October 22, 2013 – BBC 6 Music –

Sky Larkin in session from 2013 tonight. They’ve been around since 2005 and were part of that flood of bands coming out of the Leeds area of Britain that year. Got their breakthrough at the Unsigned Bands Stage at the Leeds Festival in 2006 and 2007. Signed to Wichita Records in 2008, and recorded their debut album in Seattle which was produced by John Goodmanson, who also produced the Sleater-Kinney band and Death Cab For Cutie.

Their debut album, Golden Spike was released in 2009 to critical acclaim and a live gig at SXSW that year which kicked off a series of tours throughout the Spring and Summer that year, ending up with a tour supporting The Cribs in December.

Since then they’ve been touring a gigging regularly, opening for a wide range of acts from Blood Red Shoes to Frightened Rabbit.

This session from 2013 was done to coincide with the release of their third album, Motto which was released in September of 2013. Harkin left the band in 2014 to become touring guitarist for Sleater-Kinney. In 2015 they did a series of appearances – their first since taking a hiatus in 2006.

By all accounts, Sky Larkin is still together, though they have gone through a few personnel changes over the years. Looking at their website, they seem to be taking a hiatus, as the last post was from November of 2014 – and their Facebook page makes a reference to “slumbering on” – so, with no official notice of breaking up, the assumption is, they are in the process of resting and regrouping.

So, while we’re all waiting for the next installment of Sky Larkin, their BBC 6 Music Session from October 22, 2013 is all we have to go on at present.

In any event, crank it up and enjoy.
