Intergalactic Lovers – live at Pukkelpop 2017 – August 17, 2017 – RTBF Belgique –
Continuing our look at some of the festivals in Europe this summer, Pukkelpop 2017 in Kiewit, Belgium has been one of the go-to Summer festivals in Europe, boasting a wide array of artists and genres and a lot of homegrown talent. Intergalactic Lovers has become one of the best examples of Belgian Indie to come along in a while.
Together since 2008, the band, fronted by Lara Chedraoui whose voice has been compared to PJ Harvey, while the band has been compared to Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Feist. Despite naming comparisons, Intergalactic Lovers is their own band with their own sound and they have grown a lot since I first heard them a few years ago.
Earlier this year I posted a concert from the 2015 Ancienne Belgique Festival – in two years the difference is notable. I think you would chalk it up to assurance, playing large crowds and just touring a lot; it’s the thing that makes bands grow up fast.
So this latest installment comes just a few days ago, from August 17, and they continue to be a band to watch and a band to seek out. I have no idea if they have come over to this side of the Atlantic or if there are plans. Certainly, this year is taken up with touring Europe extensively between now and December. So, the possibilities of them coming to L.A. anytime soon might be slim. Still, they are band to pay attention to and to check out.
At present they have two albums out – Greetings And Salutations from 2011 and Little Heavy Burdens from 2014. Salutations won them a Best New Band award in 2011. Their new album Exhale is slated for release in just a few weeks. So it should be eagerly anticipated by the press and fans alike.
