Switching gears a bit and heading into Memphis Soul territory. Ann Peebles is probably best known for her 1973 smash hit I Can’t Stand The Rain and a string of hits since. Tonight it’s her debut single, the one that put her on the radar for big things in the future. Walk Away was issued in 1969 and made it to 22 on the R&B charts, establishing her as a potent entry in the Soul genre. A multi-talent from the get-go, Peebles wrote her own material, and had the good fortune of having a lot of it covered by other artists, and still getting it covered today.

Still going strong – but tonight it’s a look back at the beginnings of a phenomenal artist.
