Diving into the 70’s this Friday night with The Specials. A session recorded at the BBC for the John Peel Program, most of it from May 23, 1979.

Here’s what’s on the player:

The Specials
John Peel Program

1. Gangsters
2. Too Much Too Young (1 and 2 Recored May 23, 1979)
3. Rat Race
4. Blank Expression (3 and 4 session dates not listed)

I have to keep reminding myself that Ska wasn’t all that well known in the States before The Specials showed up in the late 1970’s. We knew about Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff and Reggae. But bands like The Specials were new and they were energetic and they became very popular from the get-go.

No end to things you haven’t heard of, no mater how old or new they are.
