Over to Spain this week for a concert by Real Filharmonia de Galicia, recorded last December and featuring Harp sensation Xavier de Maistre in the Ginastera Concerto for Harp and Orchestra. Shepherding proceedings along is condutor Maximino Zumalave who also leads the orchestra in music of Guridi and Dvorak.

I’m not familiar with this orchestra, but I have been getting pretty blown away consistently with Orchestras considered “Regional”. I’ve been expecting to hear something akin to amateur or student in respect to playing, but this bunch is pretty top-notch. And it’s a pleasure to hear these unfamiliar bands run through their paces. Further evidence the Music World is alive and well and flourishing all over the world (well . . .most of it).

The concert runs just a little over 90 minutes, so it’s broken up between two players. The Guridi and Ginaster are on the top player. The Maistre encore and the Dvorak are on the bottom player.

And here’s what’s on the players:

Concierto celebrado en el Auditorio Galicia de Santiago de Compostela el 1 Deciembre de 2011

!. Guridi: Diez Melodias vascas

2.Ginastera: Concierto para arpa y orquesta (Xavier de Maistre, arp).

3. Dvorak: Sinfonia no. 8 en Sol mayor, Op. 88 B. 163 “Inglesa”.

Definitely qualifies for Anti-Road Rage music.

Enjoy.
