Over to Paris this week for a concert at Le Champs-Elyseès by Orchestre National de France, guest Conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada and featuring Pianist Martin Helmchen in music of Kodaly, Schumann and Rachmaninov. Orozco-Estrada, incidentally, has just been appointed Music Director of the Houston Symphony. So stay tuned.
The concert was recorded this past January 10th by the ever-amazing/always-incredible Radio France Musique.
Not so much meat-and-potatoes repertoire (although the Schmann Piano Concerto probably qualifies), as familiar works, not played all that much in concert halls.
Here’s what’s on the players:
Part 1:
1. Zoltan Kodaly
Danses de Galanta (1933)
2. Robert Schumann
Concerto pour piano et orchestre (1845)*
3. Robert Schumann (Encore)
Vogel als Prophet, Ext. des Scènes de la forêt
Op.82 (1848, 1849)*
Part 2:
1. Serge Rachmaninov
Danses symphoniques (1940)
Martin Helmchen, Piano*
Orchestre National de France
Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Direction
Concert donné le 10 janvier 2013.
Thoroughly enjoyable (at least from my standpoint), and right up there in the Anti-Road Rage Wednesday sweepstakes.
We made it through the middle of the week. Now relax.
