Over to Paris this week for a concert by the Girard Quartet, with Raphael Pidoux lending an extra bit of cello for two of the four Boccherini pieces, recorded in concert at the Musèe d’Orsay this past March 19th by the legendary and venerable Radio France Musique.

As a Boccherini fan, I always keep an eye out for anyone playing his works in concert. Luckily, here’s one (albeit a bit short) devoted entirely to his music.

Here’s what’s on the player:

Luigi Boccherini

1. Quatuor en do mineur G 171 Op. 9 N°1 (1770)

2.Quintette en si bémol Majeur G 271 Op.11 N°1 (1771)*

3.Quintette N°77 en ré Majeur G 341 Op.40 N°2, Fandango*

4.Quintette en mi majeur op 13 n°5 G275

Raphaël Pidoux, Violoncelle*

Quatuor Girard

Concert donné le 19 mars 2013 à l’Auditorium du Musée d’Orsay.

Good concert all the way around, and certainly one that makes rush hour freeway travel a lot more bearable.

Trust me.
