According to the lineup, Lisa and The Lips consists primarily of vocalist Lisa Kekaula and husband Bob Vennum of the L.A.-based Rock n’ Soul band The Bellrays. The Lips portion is made up of musicians from other bands around the Madrid area. It would appear to be something of a side-project for Kekaula and Vennum, as an album has already been cut and available via their website, and a tour is currently going on around Spain.
In any event, Lisa and The Lips are tight little unit that blisters through this 30 minute session for RNE Radio 3’s Los Conciertos de Radio 3 with ease.
From the sounds of it, a good time is had by everybody in the band. And, as has been a well-known fact for a number of years in the Jazz world, Europe has more than its fare share of kick-ass musicians who can lend their services quite nicely to a healthy dose of Soul.
