Another tribute – one of too many this year. Legendary Jazz guitarist Jim Hall passed away earlier this week, leaving yet another empty space that will, in all likelihood, never be refilled. Or refilled, but never in the same way.

Hall was, what many referred to as The Quiet Revolutionary. A master of a subtle and lyrical style, coupled with a melodic  approach to improvisation making him one of the more sought-after guitarists and collaborators in Jazz.

It’s ironic that long-time colleague and collaborator Chico Hamilton left only weeks before Jim Hall.

This weekend, by way of tribute and a remembrance of his brilliance – one of the unique and typically magic collaborations between Jim Hall and valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer, recorded by AVRO in The Netherlands at the 1979 North Sea Jazz Festival.

Luckily for us, and those coming up who will never meet him, Jim Hall left behind a legacy and a reminder that music is the glue that holds us all together.

Rest in peace – your work is done. The fruits of your labor will live forever.
