By way of comparison, I ran across this earlier incarnation of The Byrds, playing the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, a mere three years before the Fillmore West incarnation I  just ran.

For those of you not familiar with the band, this is what The Byrds established themselves as; the quintessential Folk/Psych/Rock band who exploded on the scene in 1965, and this is what they sounded like in concert.

Shortly after this, the wheels would start to come off and band members would drop out and drift into other legacies – most notably David Crosby who would go on to co-found Crosby, Stills and Nash.

Listening to these two concerts together, you get the feeling that it wasn’t just a three year difference as much as it was an entire universe that separated The Byrds of 1967 to The Byrds of 1970.

This one comes in a little under 20 minutes. So you can actually play this concert and the 1970 concert together in one sitting.

You might as well – it is Saturday and all.

Enjoy.
