Can’t think of a better Sunday than spending it listening to the cool and sumptuous sounds of Sarah Vaughan. This club date, via the Stars Of Jazz series which aired each Tuesday night over NBC Radio, features The Divine One and her Trio, live at Birdland in New York City and broadcast on August 21st 1952.

She shares the bill with the inimitable Slim Gaillard, but this weekend it’s just Sarah (hope you don’t mind – I’ll put it back together at a later date).

Really nothing much you can say about the legendary Sarah Vaughan that hasn’t been written or spoken about at great length over the years. She is one of the greatest Jazz vocalists ever, and her voice and phrasing are as fresh today as when she started. Timeless and wonderful – and it doesn’t get any better than that.

Enjoy – and Happy Mother’s Day.
