The good news for 2014 is Syd Arthur is finally doing a tour of the U.S. – it’s been eagerly awaited since they got together in 2008. Heirs to the mantle of some of the great Canterbury bands, Syd Arthur are the next logical step; one that began a few decades ago with the likes of The Wilde Flowers and Caravan. They are a complete breath of fresh air and I was going to wait until I found a session or concert to feature them on the Roundtable, but since they are gearing up for a tour of the U.S. (missing Los Angeles, but they did play Coachella a few weeks ago), and are heading over here starting on the 20th of May with a gig in San Francisco, I thought it would be a good idea to give you a taste of what you’re in for, and maybe some prompting to go, if you’re on the fence. They are also about to release their latest album Sound Mirror, which is scheduled to come out in the UK on May 20th and the US on June 2.
Tonight it’s a track from their latest ep, Moving World. Exit Domino feels so much like Caravan it’s uncanny. But it’s important to add Syd Arthur are very much their own entity.
I find their music to be extremely enjoyable on many levels and for that reason, seeing them in concert should be a must if you’re anywhere near where they are scheduled to play.
In the meantime, hit the play button and relax with this one – it’s a lovely piece of music.
