Over to The Netherlands this week for a concert featuring The McCoy Tyner Quintet, live at Groningen and recorded by TRO – and rebroadcast in the U.S. by American Public Radio on March 1, 1984. Tyner, one of the pioneering keyboard players who came to prominence with John Coltrane, he has also been closely associated with Hank Mobley, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter and Stanley Turrentine, and has had a long and celebrated solo career that has spanned some 50+ years. This weekend’s concert features McCoy Tyner, with a group featuring Gary Bartz on sax, John Blake on violin, John Lee bass, and Wilby Fletcher on drums.
