More sad news this week – the passing of original Ramones drummer Tommy Ramone (Erdelyi) was another in what is becoming a very long list of musicians leaving us in 2014. Coupled with news of the passing of Jazz immortal Charlie Haden, this has been a lousy week for music all around.

But first to The Ramones – in tribute to a Drummer who gave Punk its frantic pulse, Tommy Ramone was indeed the backbone to the band and helped put them on the map as one of the pivotal bands to come out of the U.S. in the late 1970s.

Here is an early gig, recorded live at The Club in Cambridge Massachusetts on May 12, 1976 – complete with what appears to be a fight at around 30 minutes. Would you have it any other way?

RIP Tommy Ramone – you helped make it all unforgettable.
