Blowing Hot and Cool this weekend with a set featuring Arnett Cobb and His Orchestra and The George Shearing Quintet, recorded live from Birdland on July 3rd 1952.

From the NBC Radio series Stars Of Jazz – the show spotlights half a set by Cobb and half a set by Shearing. Sadly, they don’t collaborate – it might’ve been interesting.

But it’s a decidedly cool and sultry breeze from these two, landing in the middle of a Summer Sunday in August. Dig it, and enjoy it.

And while you’re digging and enjoying – a little passing of the hat for this Sunday by way of our Indiegogo Fundraiser campaign for Past Daily/The Gordon Skene Sound Collection. If you love Jazz, and you love these live dates from all over history and from some of the greatest names, please consider kicking in a few Tax Deductible Dollars to help keep us rolling. We’re knee-deep in preservation and digitization of the Archive – a really huge undertaking and a never-ending journey of discovery and rescue. A lot of original material in our archive is deteriorating. And it’s a race against time to make sure it’s preserved and digitized and available to you to listen, enjoy and learn from – and believe me, there’s a lot of each to be had. Remember, your donation is Tax Deductible because now The Gordon Skene Sound Collection is a Non-Profit Organization, pledged to make history available at your fingertips. We need your help and anything you can do is more that greatly appreciated. Click on the link right below our Piano-Playing Canine and make your pledge. Whether or not you can or can’t, please tell your friends. We’re all in this one together.
