One of the best things about Festival season is the enormous range of bands represented in one place. Bands of the tried-and-true school, Bands reuniting, bands on the way up and new bands just reaching wider audiences.

ALB, the brain-child of French multi-instrumentalist/writer/producer Clement Daquin is a huge discovery and so far one of the high points of Festival season in Europe this year. Around since 2006 and with two albums out, ALB is new to me. And, in a similar vein as Jacco Gardner, offers a different, yet no less astounding and satisfying approach to a complex and engaging musical tapestry.

Daquin crams a lot of musical ideas into a small space and they all work exceedingly well. Daquin is a talented musician and a brilliant tunesmith. ALB is definitely one of those bands to watch for, and ALB/Daquin has certainly demonstrated his music has no borders. In short, be on the lookout for him to be showing up in the States at some point soon. He would be very much at home at SXSW or Coachella next year. Just sayin’. Just hinting. Check out their Facebook page and grab their free download as well as a copy of their latest ep Whispers Under The Moonlight.

In the meantime, this concert from the Cabaret Vert festival in Northern France is yet another great indication music is in some good hands. Recorded yesterday (August 21st), it gives you some idea what to be watching for in the coming months.

Play very loud – I did, several times so far.

While you’re doing that, please kick in a few bucks while we pass the hat for our Indiegogo/Past Daily/Gordon Skene Sound Collection Fundraiser. We do a lot of history here – but we also do a lot of new music. Because we think History is just as much about what happens now as what happened then. Living history – milestone moments. Please consider making a Tax Deductible Contribution to help us keep up the work – the restoration, preservation and sharing all the history you hear on this site – as well as the new stuff you hear which you will be hearing a lot more of the future. Click on the headline just below our Piano Playing Mascot and give what you can. A lot – or a little, whatever you are comfortable with. We are grateful and can’t tell you how much your support is appreciated. We’ll be here as long as you’re here and we can’t be here without you.
