Continuing our late-Summer romp through festival season in Europe this year.
Tonight it’s a concert by Montreal/Vancouver/now-Brooklyn Jangle-Pop/Indie/Raunchmeister Mac DeMarco in a set at this years Route du Rock Summer Festival at the otherwise peaceful, bucolic seaside burg of St. Malo in France.
DeMarco, who insists on spreading a bit of theatrical madness around during his concerts is, beyond the schtick, quite good. His songs are catchy and engaging and well-crafted and the onstage theatrics are icing on the proverbial cake. He admittedly prides himself on a certain level of goofiness during his shows.
But this is audio and you don’t get to see that. What you get is the opportunity to listen to a very good concert by a band with a lot of musical talent. At 24 he already has 3 albums and an e.p. under his belt. So we’re talking seasoned veteran here.
He has a busy tour schedue until the end of the year, with a concert at The Fillmore in San Francisco in November.
It would be worth it to catch him live. In the meantime, jump into some of what he was up to in France last month.
Enjoy and play loud.
