Another sampling from Into The Great Wide Open festival in Holland this week. Icelandic sonic tapestry weaver Asgeir with a set of truly spellbinding music, recored on September 5th by the always-present VPRO.

Described in his native Iceland as Melodic-Folk, Asgeir is a lot more than that. His music is rich and dense and full of mystery – and each song is a hypnotic journey to new places.

Only on the scene since 2012, Asgeir is slowly gaining an international reputation. With the English language release of his debut album Into The Silence, it has already gotten attention in Belgium, France and the Netherlands, and his music is slowly working its way Westward. He’s already played to astonished crowds at this years SXSW and a few gigs around New York.

As far as I know, there is no release schedule for the U.S. of Asgeir’s music. I imagine that will change very soon.

In the meantime, have a listen and be completely taken aback by this concert by Asgeir – and perhaps he’ll be coming over to this side of the Atlantic sometime soon.

One can hope.
