As school desegregation began earlier in the month, the issue and resistance to it were continuing throughout the South. With Federal troops called out in Little Rock, Arkansas it was clear this would be no easy transition.

It was the topic of much discussion on weekend Talk programs, this day in 1957. The debate on the Desegregation issue was far from resolved and the polarization towards Civil Rights was heating up all over the country, not just the South.

On September 27, 1957, CBS Radio ran a special program called Report On Integration, where a panel regarding the current situation in Southern Schools was up for discussion and debate.

To give you an idea of where the range of opinions on topics like Civil Rights were in the 1950s, here is that program as it aired on this day in 1957.

Further evidence things don’t change overnight and how resistance to that change continues, even to this day.
