Covering familiar ground this weekend with a broadcast recital featuring the famous French Lyric Soprano Andrèe Esposito, accompanied by the Chamber orchestra of the ORTF, conducted by Andrè Girard in this 1962 performance of Ravel‘s Shéhérazade. Composed to the poetry of Tristan Klingsor, Shéhérazade has been a staple of the concert stage ever since it premiered in 1904.
This performance, like most of the radio recitals and concerts via these ORTF radio transcriptions, have not been available commercially and subsequently haven’t been heard since they were first performed.
So it’s a rare performance of a familiar work.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
I have been listening several times to this great post under my teacher Andre Girard. It is just fantastic. So does Andree Esposito: we finally don’t have so many recordings with her, making this perf even more precious. Her diction is perfect and she is so musical !!! I don’t think it is the Orchestre de Chambre playing, because sounds like a symphonic orchestra. Could be Orchestre Radio-Lyrique or Orchestre National that Andre Girard conducted many times. At this time, ORTF (former Radio France) had several permanent formations, vaious orchestras, chamber groups… THX a million.
