The celebrated Pasquier Trio this week, and a work which was dedicated to them by the late-19th/early 20th French composer/conductor Gabriel Piernè in a broadcast recital via ORTF in Paris, circa 1953.

The piece in question is from Trois Pieces en Trio – the first piece; Dedicace sur le nom des freres Pasquier. The Pasquier Trio, consisting of brothers Etienne, Jean and Pierre began in the late 1930s and continued into the 1960s. They were considered one of the greatest Chamber groups of the post-Word War 2 period and had commissioned over 30 works during their tenure. The Trio has been resurrected of sorts, by sons Regis and Bruno who are continuing in the tradition established by the family.

Having made a considerable number of commercial recordings, and most likely a commercial recording of this piece, it’s not that likely the broadcast performance of the Piernè Pieces en Trio have been issued.

If so, here’s a nice reminder of what The Pasquier Trio were all about.
