Early 70s favorites tonight, Argent. Assembled by former Zombies founding member Rod Argent (hence, the name) in 1969 at the demise of his former band, they were an instant hit, almost from the starting gate. With a number of hits during their somewhat short tenure, Argent was a very successful band on both sides of the Atlantic, and much of the rest of the world.

Tonight’s concert comes around the time of the release of their third album and features one of their biggest hits of 1972, Hold Your Head Up as well as the single God Gave Rock and Roll To You.

Argent broke up in 1976, after a good 7 year run. They briefly reunited in 2010 and did a short tour in December of that year. With the subsequnet reunion of The Zombies, Argent have been put on hold, at least for the time being. But things are always capable of changing.

Here’s a reminder of what the early 70s were all about, as Argent performs at the BBC’s Paris Theatre in London and preserved for posterity by the BBC Transcription Service.
