The legendary Ron Carter this weekend. Recipient of the Down Beat Jazz Hall of Fame Award in 2012, Ron Carter’s career spans several decades, and with over 2,500 albums to his credit, he is one of the most recorded Jazz bassists in history.
And for good reason. Ron Carter has collaborated with a staggering array of notables, starting with Jaki Byard and Chico Hamilton to Eric Dolphy, and as a member of the Second Miles Davis Quintet in the early 1960s – and just about everyone in between. You could say he is a walking history book and participant in some of the milestone movements in Jazz.
Adding to that, he is also an acclaimed Cellist – and you have the makings of an institution.
Thankfully, he’s still with us and gigging regularly (he’s scheduled for a concert on February 15th of this year in West Hartford Connecticut – so . . ..)
This weekend it’s a concert from Stockholm, recorded in 2011 featuring Carter’s Golden Striker Trio featuring Mulgrew Miller on piano and Russell Malone on guitar. It was recorded by Sveriges Radio 2 on March 31, 2011, and here’s what’s on the player:
