A celebration this weekend. February 6th marked what would have been Bob Marley’s 70th birthday. Sadly passing way before his time, he nonetheless continues on by way of his milestone recordings and concerts like this one, recorded live at The Boarding House in San Francisco in 1975.
A pivotal figure, not only in Reggae but Pop Music in general. His iconic I Shot The Sheriff made its way onto Pop Charts all over the world and was covered by Eric Clapton and countless others. His music put Reggae on the map for millions of people who had never heard it before. His message transcended cultures and politics, but was always on the side of freedom and peace.
To say his message is just as potent and vital now as it was in the 1970s is to make an understatement. The message and music of Bob Marley is more potent and vital now than it was even in the 1970s; the times have made that crucial.
So to celebrate the Man and the Message, here is a concert with Bob Marley and The Wailers, recorded on July 3, 1975 and broadcast by radio station KMPX-Fm in San Francisco.
