Continuing our week of 90s with a visit from Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, in concert from Finsbury Park in 1992, recorded by the venerable BBC Radio 1.

Ned’s Atomic Dustbin, who arrived at their name via a sketch from the 1950s classic comedy program The Goon Show, injected a wild streak of Psychedelia to go along with their Alternative/Power Pop leanings.

With their appearance giving them more of an aura of West Coast Surf Punks, Ned’s Atomic Dustbin were an immediate hit, having kicked off their wave of popularity by being the opening act for The Wonder Stuff during their 1989 and 1990 tours. It was when they opened during the Reading Festival of August 1990 that the buzz created and the audience reaction so great that it immediately attracted major labels to sign them. So by 1991 they were considered to be part of that wave of taste-making acts paving the way for the 90s to get rolling – alongside such bands as The Wonder Stuff, Jesus Jones, Mega City 4 and Senseless Things. They headlined the NME Stage at the 1992 Glastonbury Festival and continued a roll that lasted until 1995 when the band broke up, only to reform with a different lineup in 2000.

Tonight it’s Ned’s Atomic Dustbin during their groundbreaking days, playing before a sell-out crowd at Finsbury Park in 1992.

It is suggested you play loud and try moshing in your living room. Or maybe not.
