Update 5 – The Past Daily Emergency Fundraiser: Resorting To Gimmicks

You know things are desperate when you resort to photos of dogs in business suits.
You know things are desperate when you resort to photos of dogs in business suits.

Okay – I’ll admit it; I’m shameless – I’m trying a little bit of everything to get your attention – here come the cute dog photos.

I can’t begin to tell you how much your contributions have meant to keeping Past Daily up and running and the Archive safe from destruction. We’re almost a quarter of the way from our goal and two weeks into it. Since my last update yesterday, I’ve gotten several pledges from a number of you – and the contributions are making all the difference in the world right now. But I still need your help – all of you who come by for historic news, the Mid-Week and weekend Classical Music programs, Popular Culture pieces, rare Rock concerts, new music or historic interviews – any one of a number or all of the vast assortment of Historic, political and cultural posts I put up each day – I’m putting these up because I think they are important to share, important to know about, important for you to have access to.

But it’s a tremendous effort to keep this up every day – the research, preserving, digitizing and preparing all the posts you see means as much as 14 hours a day worth of work. It’s a labor of love but also a commitment to giving something back. The discoveries I’ve made, the people who have turned me on to history and events, the indelible moments I was witness to – it’s all a way of paying that forward, to giving back.

So it’s my commitment to you to bring as much as I can for as long as I am able to. And that’s why I’m appealing to you, the ones one the fence or the ones who have just discovered Past Daily, to chip in a little to help keep it all going.

I’m not asking for a lot – just contributing what you can afford, are comfortable with and can use the Tax Deduction. I know times are tough – they are tough financially and emotionally, and often both. But during these days of mass distraction, of click-bait and eye-candy, I don’t want to be part of the problem – I am hoping that what I’m doing here is part of a solution. And I need your help to do that.

There isn’t much time left. We have been given our notice of eviction by the end of the month which would mean the loss of the archive (some 150,000 reels of tape and 30,000 rare discs) and the end of Past Daily. That would be a two-fold tragedy – one to lose a life’s collection and the other to lose a life’s commitment.

But the solution is simple – a decision on your part to kick in the cost of a cup of Starbucks would make all the difference in the world. And that’s all I’m asking.

So please, click on the link below and give what you can. It will be given back in more ways than you realize, and it will be appreciated in more ways than you can imagine.

I am beyond grateful to all those of you who have kicked-in so far. You are making all the difference in the world. We just need a few more of you to keep it going.

Till next time . . . .
