Since we’re within hours of Hollywood‘s Biggest Night, I thought I would run a couple of interviews with Stars on the Rise in the 1950s to get you in the historic mood.

The first one is a very rare interview with Italian import Pier Angeli, who began a career in her native Italy and was discovered and brought to Hollywood where she landed a number of roles as well as landing in a few well-publicized romances, of which one was with none other than James Dean.

Although her career didn’t take off quite as meteoric as hoped, she did work quite a bit in film and TV between Hollywood and Rome and was initially cast by Francis Ford Coppola in The Godfather before her sudden death in 1971 from an accidental overdose.

Here is an interview for Australian radio during filming of Sombrero with Ricardo Montalban and Yvonne de Carlo.
