With the exception of a few spells of hiatus and reforming, The Monochrome Set have been tonight since 1978 and are still busily touring and recording. That’s a good thing.
Having been a fan since Eine Symphonie Des Grauens (their 3rd single from 1979), The Monochrome Set are one of those bands you can’t really put a label on. They are a lot of things and they embrace a lot of genres and they are an inventive and engaging band.
Their early material has always stuck with me because, at the time it was so unusual – it wasn’t reminiscent of what anyone else was doing at the time and so they were unique among bands during the Punk/Post-Punk/New-Wave period.
I ran an earlier session of theirs from 1979 last year. I ran across this second session they did for John Peel at The BBC in April of 1980.
If you remember them, this may conjure up a few images. If you haven’t heard of them before, or have only heard of them but haven’t heard their early material – I would suggest you spend the next 12 minute with the headphones on and your feet up.
