From the last night at Route du Rock Hiver in St. Malo France, a solo set by Neil Halstead, recorded on Sunday (March 1).
Halstead, who first came to prominence as founding and fronting member of the legendary shoegaze pioneers Slowdive in the 90s, and later forming Mojave 3 is also engaged in solo activities. With the reforming of Slowdive and reunion touring, Halstead has also maintained his solo endeavors, and this concert from the venerable and highly popular Route du Rock Winter Festival is another milestone in a career that has characterized Halstead as “one of Britain’s most respected songwriters”.
If you haven’t heard of Neil Halstead, or Slowdive – you really need to get your homework in order and check out some wonderful material. If you’re just getting familiar with Halstead’s solo work, this is a good place to start.
No need to crank it up – you just need to get alone and listen with your eyes closed.
And if you’ve been following our Past Daily Emergency Fundraiser you’ll know we’re just about 48 hours away from finishing, and pledges and contributions have stopped. That’s horrible. We’re still just past 60% of our goal, which means we’re a little under 40% remaining to keep us from getting the archive seized and me evicted from the site. Padlocks are on and they won’t release anything until I come up with the full $4,000 that’s owed with this new rent increase. We’re a little under $1500 away and we have 48 hours to do it in, and we need your help. If you visit Past Daily often, or even once in a while, you know the unique and rare stuff we offer, as well as out-of-the-way new things you may not hear for a long time, if ever. And we need you to chip in what you can in order for us to keep the site up and the Archive safe and giving you all the best we have to offer all day, every day. Please-please-please, click on the link below and make your tax-deductible contribution in whatever amount you’re comfortable with. $2.00, $10,00, 25.00, $50.00, $100.00 – any amount you can afford. Every penny goes to keeping us up and running and every penny goes back to you in rare and unique recordings free for you to download. 48 hours and we need everyone – please tell your friends. We’ll be here as long as you are.
