I feel unbelievably ignorant saying I have never heard Dominique A. before this week. With some 11 albums and a box set to his credit – numerous awards and an influence and inspiration for a number of artists, this 46 year-old singer/songwriter from Provins France is one of the most spellbinding and urgent singer/songwriters I have heard in years.

Coupled with the fact that this session, recorded inside an empty Musèe d’Orsay in Paris in the middle of the night with what appears to be a “dummy-head” method of stereo recording, adds an extra dimension and a completely hypnotic aura over the entire proceeding. This is a captivating and thoroughly engrossing session. I would definitely listen to this with headphones – although the sound mix over loudspeakers is pretty thrilling as well. A short session, he performs two songs; L’Ocean and a new one, Eleor.

I can’t begin to say how much I appreciate the work La Blogothèque is doing in presenting artists in the most pristine of lights. What they have done with this seemingly simple session by Dominique A. is take it into a whole new realm.

Certainly the artist lays the groundwork – what the crew does is supply the love.

Essential listening – over and over.
