A repost from 4 years ago, with better sound this time. A concert by the timeless and legendary Wire, live in Paris (not sure the venue, but I think L’Olympia) and faithfully recorded and preserved by the venerable RFI and their Eclectic radio channel FIP in May of 2011.

Having been a fan of Wire since the days of I Am The Fly, listening to them now strikes me as just how timeless this band is. They have never been less than top-notch and they have never sunk into the malaise that so many bands get into who have been together over a period of time; rehashing old ideas and generally feeling frozen. Maybe they just have that uncanny ability to speak to a lot of people – and what they say is fresh and current, no matter when they say it.

Suffice to say, I love this band and always will – almost 40 years on, there doesn’t seem to be any point in stopping now, right?

If you’ve been hearing about Wire and never actually heard them – or are not familiar with them at all, by all means use this concert as a stepping off place. They have a fantastic legacy of music to dive into. And it’s recommended you dive in, by all means.

Crank it up and enjoy.
