While I’m sifting through last weekend’s Coachella tapes in order to get some “best of” performances up and running, I came across this 1978 session from Punk pioneers 999, recorded for John Peel at The BBC in November 1, 1978.

Touted as one of the longest-lived bands of the Punk era, 999 have only gone through two lineup changes in their 38 years together, it makes them something of an anomaly in survival rates among 70s bands.

But if listening to this past weekend at Coachella is any indication, Punk never really died and never really went out of fashion. So even though they’ve been together for what seems like an eternity to some, 999 still have the potential to make it all seem current.

So, to give you an idea of what it was sounding like in 1978, here is 999 in session at The BBC on November 1, 1978.

It’s okay to crank it up.
