Some early snippets of the New Psychedelia, compliments of The Mighty Lemon Drops tonight. Sadly, a short lived band (1986-1992) who came along around right around the time Echo and The Bunnymen were coming into prominence during their neo-Psych phase.
They got off to a good start, with their debut single “Like an Angel” selling well and hitting the UK charts. Their subsequent debut album in 1988 scored very well both in the UK and the US via College Radio, as did their following albums.
But that wasn’t enough for members to leave and the band to eventually call it a day in 1992. There have been stabs at reunions over the years, including a one-off concert in 2002 and an offer to reunite for the 2007 Coachella Festival. But none of them managed to stick and The Mighty Lemon Drops are no more.
But tonight it’s an early session, during their initial phase and their rise to popularity, recorded for John Peel at The BBC in 1988 (according to the Peel Sessions).
