The saddest of news tonight – the passing of Blues giant/legend/Icon BB King. One of the greatest guitarists of all time, passed away earlier this evening in his Las Vegas home, after being ill for several months. He was 89.

Tributes are already pouring in from all over the world.

In a way, there are no words – you cannot convey in words what BB King has left us. His music, his artistry, the man of boundless generosity for musicians coming up – they can’t be put in words.

His legacy is vast. His contribution can’t be fully imagined, because there are generations coming who will hear him and be inspired by him and will emulate him. Generations we won’t meet, and generations who will never have met him.

We were lucky – we got to see him – he played over 100 concerts a year. He is part of our heritage. He is a national treasure.

And as way of tribute, here is a concert he performed at the 1969 Dallas Pop Festival. Recorded on September 1, 1969.

An incredible loss – but an incredible gift while he was with us. Luckily, he will be with us always.

Rest In Peace
