More historic performances this week. Tonight it’s a concert by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conducted by the legendary Carlo Maria Giulini and featuring the great Soprano Lucia Popp in a performance of Strauss’ Four Last Songs.
The concert begins with Hindemith‘s Concert Music for Strings and Brass – and ends with Brahms Symphony Number 1. It was recorded live on November 6, 1981 by venerable Public Radio Station KUSC.
It’s broken up between two players – with the Hindemith and Strauss on the top player and the Brahms on the bottom player.
Enjoy.
And while you’re enjoying the concert, I need to remind you that we’re now at the halfway point in our Past Daily Spring Fundraiser and time is running out. We really need your pledges between now and when we end the Fundraiser. And we aren’t doing so well in the Tax Deductible Contributions department, with a little over 11% raised and 15 days to go or until we raise $15,000. Sounds like a chunk of change, but we can do it, and I know there are a lot of you out there supporting what Past Daily is all about. So please, click on the link below and make your pledge this week – it’s Tax Deductible and it goes for a great cause; preserving history and keeping it fresh and it means a lot to people. So chip in if you can, and tell your friends!
Thanks Gordon – this is a rarity – Giulini and Lucia Popp – lovely to hear this.
Well done.
