The First Lady of Song this weekend. Ella Fitzgerald, in one of her many concerts overseas, recorded live in Stockholm on February 29, 1960 and preserved for posterity by the venerable Sveriges Radio.

No question, Ella Fitzgerald was one of the most visible and potent forces in Jazz vocals in the 20th Century. Her unique phrasing and range made her an influential artist to countless singers coming up over the years, and continues to this day.

To get an idea of just what an essential artist Ella Fitzgerald has become, this concert is a wonderful example of just how effortless and how rich her voice was – and how free of Auto-Tune it is (hint-hint!).

Fans need no prodding.
