It’s going to be a non-stop Festival season, between now and September. New acts, established acts, up-and-comers, favorites – the whole musical tapestry is represented in what is one wall-to-wall season of festivals this year.
The latest to grab attention is the Best Kept Secret Festival in Holland. In their third year and already one of the must-see festivals in Europe. Focusing 100% on music and with a stellar lineup – Best Kept Secret is quickly no longer living up to its name, but rather becoming the place bands are vying for to perform at.
Highlight of the festival was Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. But no less amazing were sets by Alt-J, The Vaccines, Balthazar, Of Monsters and Men and an appearance from Jonny Greenwood and the London Contemporary Orchestra. 95 bands in three days and a lot of great music.
Tonight it’s Temples, from Saturday. I predicted Temples would be around a good long time – and so far they’re making good on that prediction. Definitely the amount of touring and gigging they’ve been putting in since their first tour is having a positive effect, not only on the press and audience but on the band themselves. Solid, tight and self-assured. They are settling in for the long-haul and it was a pleasure to catch their set. They have a full schedule of festivals all over Europe between now and September, having just finished up a U.S. tour before coming to Holland.
In the meantime, crank this one up and have a listen at what you missed if you couldn’t make it to Best Kept Secret this year.
