It occurred to me I haven’t run a Who concert in a very long time. One of my favorite bands, which I managed to catch just about every L.A. appearance until the early 70s. Always great shows – always madness – always complete chaos. They spoke to fans on a deep level with no frills, no gimmicks – just pure, ear-splitting Rock n’ Roll.
One of the shows I remembered very well, is a duplicate of this one from The Fillmore East in 1968. Only I remember it at the Shrine Auditorium Expo Hall in Los Angeles – pretty much the same rundown as the Fillmore show – although this tape is missing several numbers, the sound is so good and the energy so explosive that it more than makes up for the loss.
Play this one loud. It’s also a reminder that it was June 27, 2002 we lost Who bassist John Entwistle.
So it’s also a tribute.
