Adlai Stevenson Death Announcement – ABC Radio News – July 14, 1965 – Gordon Skene Sound Collection

The news came as quickly as death had come to Adlai Stevenson, former governor of Illinois, two-time Presidential candidate, UN Ambassador and eloquent statesman – collapsed on a sidewalk in London, outside the American Embassy, the result of a massive heart attack.

The death sent shockwaves throughout the world. America lost one of its most articulate and eloquent statesman – the man who was often credited as the voice of a reasonable, civilized, elevated America, bringing a new generation into politics and moving millions of people in the U.S. and around the world.
