If the Boomtown Rats did nothing else in their careers, being the purveyors of the 80s anthem I Don’t Like Mondays would assure them a place in the New Wave hall of fame.

But they did a lot of things – and as front man and co-founder, Bob Geldof went on to spearhead Live Aid, which became one of the biggest Music-for-charity fundraisers in history.

But the Boomtown Rats were, first and foremost, an Irish Rock Band who had a lot of hits and were very popular in the early 1980s. After their split in 1986, and going their separate ways, they reconvened (mostly, with a few changes) in 2013 and took to the road once more.

Tonight, it’s a concert from the early period – 1982 at the Hammersmith Odeon before a sell-out crowd, and captured for posterity by BBC Radio 1 for their In Concert Series – and popping up again in 2009 via BBC 6 Music.

Crank it up and get ready for the weekend.
