Sir Georg Solti And The Chicago Symphony – Opening Of 1983-1984 Season – Past Daily Mid-Week Concert
Another classic concert this week, featuring The Chicago Symphony led by Music Director Sir Georg Solti, opening the 1983-1984 season of the CSO.
Broadcast live from the stage on September 29, 1983 – the CSO kicks off with the Star Spangled Banner (the standard season opener) and then begins with the Haydn Symphony No. 100 “Military” – continues with the Hummel Trumpet Concerto in E featuring Principal Trumpet player Adolph Herseth doing the honors. Finally concluding with the world premier of Witold Lutoslawski’s Symphony No. 3 – a work commissioned by the CSO.
A varied program with interviews and a goodly amount of excitement from the opening season crowd.
Maybe not Wednesday Anti-Road Rage Music, but celebratory and vintage Solti nonetheless.
So sit back and enjoy for the next 90 minutes.
This world premiere was an event for sure. THX !!
