Swedish singer-songwriter José Gonzalez was born in Gothenburg – two years after his family fled the military-junta in Argentina and relocated in 1976, José was born. His musical influences are wide-ranging and far-reaching. Aside from his work with the band Tunip, Gonzalez has struck out on his own since June of 2003, when his debut single was released, attracting the attention of Joachim Gävert, who signed Gonzalez to his newly formed Imperial Records label. Since then he has released 3 albums, all of which have been critically acclaimed in his native Sweden and throughout Europe. Because it’s a successful blend of Latin Folk and Pop as well as Reggae, Soul, Pop and just about everything in-between, Gonzalez has achieved an across-the-board appeal with audiences and critics alike.
His appearances have extended from local gigs to appearances on Late Night With Conan O’Brian and Later . . .with Jools Holland, Gonzalez has been getting increased exposure in other areas of the world.
This concert, recorded at Liseberg and preserved for posterity by Sveriges Radio on September 26 of this year gives an idea of his popularity in his native Sweden.
There are plans to embark on a U.S. tour, starting in March of 2016. I would venture to guess his popularity will be just as strong here as it is in other parts of the world. José Gonzalez is an extraordinarily gifted and talented musician – in addition to his TV appearances, he is getting ready for a U.S. tour which will take him to the Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on March 11th of next year. Might be a good time to investigate tickets.
