Disclosure – Live At Alexandria Palace, London 2014 – Nights At The Roundtable: Concert Edition

Disclosure
Disclosure – to paraphrase those immortal words: Fuck Art, let’s Dance!

Disclosure – Live at Alexandria Palace, London – March 8, 2014

Disclose tonight. End of the week – time to dance and forget about it, and Disclosure are just the ones to do it. As a colleague pointed out to me – I don’t usually run Electronic/House Music – well . . .not entirely true. But if given the choice between a live performance of anything and a studio-derived Electronic/House Music album, I will always go with the live stuff. That said, Disclosure in a concert setting is a lot different than hearing their albums. One thing – they have a live drummer and that makes all the difference in the world – and the other; they are several notches above run-of-the-mill EDM endeavors because (IMO) a lot of EDM is sterile and, well . . .boring.

Disclosure isn’t. They are quite exciting in a live setting and have been one of the most popular and critically acclaimed Electronic duos currently on the scene. Consisting of the brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence, Disclosure got started in 2010. Neither brother particularly liked Electronic music – Howard played bass and Guy was a drummer who played in Indie-influenced guitar bands and also studied Classical music. But from meeting Detroit-based Rapper/DJ and Producer J Dilla, Guy became interested in the creative aspect of Electronic Music and began experimenting. He eventually got Howard interested and Disclosure was formed.

It’s been a very good ride so far. Their debut album, Settle, came out in 2013 and was nominated for a Best Dance/Electonica Grammy in 2014. The subsequent tour and surprise hit appearances at Coachella and SXSW have given further evidence Disclosure were no passing fancy. Their new album, Caracal, which was released in September of 2015 has been getting enthusiastic reviews and widespread positive reaction, further adding to the notion that Disclosure are a group destined to be around for a while.

In case you’re just getting acquainted with Electronica/House/Dance Music, and are on the lookout for some of the practitioners of the genre, here is a great place to start – Disclose, recorded live at Alexandria Palace, London, last year on March 8th.

Crank it up and get ready for the weekend.
