Violent Femmes
Violent Femmes – The band that made Milwaukee famous.

Violent Femmes – live at Town and Country – 1991 – BBC 6 Music

Violent Femmes tonight. A nod to the midwest bands during the 80s and early 90s who shaped and help define American music during that haywire decade.

Recorded in concert at the Town and Country Club in 1991, and it was recorded by the venerable BBC Radio 1 for their In Concert series. This is Violent Femmes during incarnation Number 2. After an initial hiatus, which began in 1987, they regrouped a year later and it was this time their popularity went through the roof.

They have been considered one of the seminal Post-Punk/Alternative Rock Bands of the 1980s and certainly one of the most successful in terms of album sales – with some 9 million albums sold during their tenure to 2009. They’ve since regrouped again and are back together, more or less continuing where they left off.

This concert comes around the time of their 5th album Why Do Birds Sing? and the subsequent tour to promote it.

If you’re just getting acquainted with The Violent Femmes, here is a good place to start. If you’ve been a fan all this time, here is a reminder of what you liked so much.

Play loud – it’s almost the weekend anyway . . .
